Ask the Author: Chloe Caldwell

1. What scotch do you recommend in McDonald’s Coca-Cola?
Johnnie Walker Red Label holds a soft spot in my heart. I got into in it after loving Elliot Smith’s song Miss Misery from Good Will hunting. He sings: “I’ll fake it through the day with some help from Johnnie Walker Red.â€
2. Are piñatas recommended props at an orgy? Why?
Hell yes. They are an excellent icebreaker and a fun way to distribute condoms. And you can get out some of that sexual and nervous energy by destroying it.
3. What was the narrator still hungry for at the end of “Hunger”?
I think the narrator will always be hungry. It’s her personality. But literally, she was hungry for French onion soup. And fulfillment.
4. How does music play a part in a sexual experience? Does it depend on the context of the experience?
A silent orgy would be a boring orgy. Mood-boosting jams are a must in any orgy situation. The best choice would be songs that everyone knows, lighthearted, up beat and danceable. “Time Of The Season†by The Zombies comes to mind. Context matters. What is sexy music to one person can be revolting to another. My friend was stoked to sleep with a girl once but then she put on Elvis Costello and he was turned off. I think if people’s music choices differ to an extreme, then those people probably shouldn’t be having sex.
5. What currently, when eaten, is like an orgy in your mouth?
I gave up chocolate and cheese for lent, so I’ll have to go with a smoothie. They’ve got a bunch of different shit in them, kind of like an orgy. An orgy of flavors. I also dig root beer barrel candies as of late. And that first sip of coffee in the morning. With cinnamon. And half and half.
6. How would Stanley Kubrick direct the adaptation of “Hunger”? Who would you cast?
I don’t know who that is. But I would cast the most ridiculous and hilarious people I know. So basically I would have to cast the actual people of the original orgy.
