All Things Pankish

All Good Gifts These Words of Yours

[Roxane Gay / February 11th, 2010 / Contributor Notes ]

Brandi Wells’s Treatment appears at Dark Sky Magazine and I love the way the story begins.

Knee Jerk #8 features Donna Vitucci and Eric Bennett.

At Inertia, Maureen Alsop has three poems.

The Last Thing We Ever Need by Jen Michalski is live at Metazen. Jen is also featured in the Fictionaut Five.

Congratulations are in order for Matt Bell. His story Dredge, which appears in Hayden’s Ferry Review #45, has been selected for Best American Mystery Stories 2010.

The Spring 2010 issue of The Gettysburg Review includes an essay from Kristina Marie Darling.

Check out Mel Bosworth’s handwriting at Anastamoo.

February Northville Review brings Joseph Goosey, Joseph Murphy, and J. Bradley. J also has a short story, Travelogue, in amphibi.us.

Poetry from David LaBounty is now up at Splash of Red.

Amber Noelle Sparks has a story in Triple Quick Fiction from featherproof books.

Cristin O’Keefe Aptowicz brings her considerable talent to Verse Daily with her poem Choke.

A new take on Kramer vs. Kramer appears at Titular by way of Andrew Roe.

At Everyday Genius, a poem from Sarah Sarai.

Gorgeous Fanzine features Happy Rock by Matthew Simmons.

Peter Schwartz’s chapbook Old Men, Girls and Monsters is now available from Acilles Chapbook Series. Details here. Act fast.

Ethel Rohan will have work forthcoming in The Potomac Review, Dark Sky Magazine and The Emerson Review. Congratulations, Ethel! We’ll post links as they are made available.

PANK 4 is making its way out into the world. Joseph Quintela, editor of Short, Fast and Deadly says, “Got the Issue today. Gorgeous. Bristling with the sort of words that simply won’t leave you alone after they’ve been read. You’ll eat PANK. You’ll drink PANK. You’ll sleep PANK. You’ll dream PANK.” Go here to order the issue as well as Aaron Burch’s How to Take Yourself Apart, How to Make Yourself Anew.

Last but not least, it has to be said, Artifice Magazine is hot shit. It is, for me, one of the most exciting magazine debuts (and I am that nerd who gets excited about new magazines) I’ve seen in the past year and a half because it has been so thoughtfully executed. The design is clean and modern and the embossed cover is tactile and intriguing and mysterious. The content of the issue is seamless and well-curated. This is a magazine making the strongest of cases for the notion that sometimes less really is more. Get thee to their website and order your copy of Issue 1 before they sell out. Based on top secret information (posts in draft form) I think we’llĀ  (M. Bartley) be featuring more thoughts on Artifice and another equally sexy magazine, Lumberyard, some time in the next while.

I received PANK 4 the other day. It’s beautiful! I’m savoring each story. It’s much more than I ever expected. Thank you!

I just dug into Pank 4 last night and had to stop after JA Tyler. That piece might be the best I’ve ever read from him.

Brandi’s “Treatment” ruled really hard. That girl has a way…

COKA’s poem, Choke, was amazing. (I lurve her)

KRAMER VS. KRAMER WAS THE BEST!!! I DONT KNOW ANDREW ROE, BUT I LOVE YOU FOR THAT PIECE!

And I am happy to say my handwriting is only slightly better than Mel’s handwriting.

  3. Andy Roe says:

Thanks for the mention, Roxane. xtx: so glad you liked Kramer vs. Kramer.
